Since Spring Break

Eric and my spring break was the week after the kids'.  It was a fine week; nothing exciting, but that's okay sometimes.

One highlight of the week was Eric's birthday.  We are realizing that a happy birthday is really about eating well, hopefully not having to go to work (Eric didn't this year!), and maybe getting a nap.  Like every year I can remember with Eric, we went to his parents' house for ribs and chocolate meringue pie.
Last Saturday we went to the Shrine Circus.  It was a first for all of us.  Seeing the historic Shine Auditorium, site of so many big award ceremonies, looking worn, along with a show that is no Ringling Bros. (not that the kids would know, since it was their first circus), was a little depressing... but the kids had fun and we enjoyed the nice family time.

This past week was a return to reality after two weeks of spring breaks.  Exhausting!

Carter and I did have fun with our friends Katie and Jakie at the Arboretum.  It was a gorgeous morning!
How deep is the fountain?
FYI: We're not major Dodger or Angel fans.  Uncle Dave got both teams' hats for C and Carter picks the one that matches his outfit.  : )
Boys and sticks
Friday had a few highlights too.  First, as I left Ashlynn's school after volunteering in her classroom, there was a deer walking up the street and onto the front lawn of the school.  Animal control and a police car arrived soon to get the deer moving in the right direction, but it was still pretty cool!
Also on Friday, Eric lead a team of kids from his school for his district's Operation Tone Up competition and they won for the second straight year.  We celebrated by picking up ice cream drinks from Sonic.  Pippa came with us.
On our way home we stopped at Toys R Us so Ashlynn could buy a toy she's been saving for (I'll post about that another time).

Today we actually didn't have ANYTHING we needed to do.  We ended up doing some projects in our backyard.  For my birthday about 5 years ago I received 3 crape myrtle trees (one from Eric and Ashlynn, one from my parents and one from Eric's parents) that were planted along our back fence.  One has been very unhappy, as it lived under the Chinese elm tree that shades most of our backyard. Today we moved it to a sunnier spot in our yard.  Now when I say we moved this tree, you need to know that it is not easy to move a tree that's been in the ground for a while.  It was a lot of work!  Well, we tried our best and hope it will survive the move because we really like how it looks in its new spot next to the house.
 That's it around here!
