We had a busy and fun weekend!
Eric warned me that Ashlynn's 8 o'clock game was hot, so you can imagine what it was like for Carter and me at his 11 o'clock game. I was lucky to make friends with other parents with a large sun umbrella. Those 5 year old boys did a great job on the field for about 45 minutes of warm-up and game time. Carter had such fun and didn't complain about the sun or heat. I loved his pink face.
A little later we celebrated Ashlynn's friend, Julianna's, 9th birthday. Our girls have celebrated every birthday together since birth.

Carter joined the party as Jakie's buddy.
The kids made pizza from scratch.
Crazy chef Ashlynn
Eric came so Bo had a buddy too. :)
Yum
The birthday girl!
We came home from the party, put on jeans, then headed out to Chinatown via the Gold Line train. We went with Eric's aunt Laurie, Eric's dad, Brian, and Brian's girlfriend, Ana, to celebrate Eric's and Brian's birthdays. We ate dinner at Yang Chow, then walked around.
One shop owner had Ashlynn be the salesperson and ring me up. He taught her to use the cash register and what to say to a customer.
I attempted a few selfies during the evening. Some were better than others.
Fun neon lights!

Sunday was pretty busy too! After church we spent quite a lot of time wandering Sierra Madre's Art in the Park event. The kids decorated butterflies and we looked at the many types of art that were for sale. Even though I had no intention of purchasing, I want the kids to slow down and really look at art and think about it a bit.
Carter had a blast and even danced as he played.
In the early evening, Ashlynn and I went to the high school's production of Peter Pan. We sat with our friends, the Kaufmanns, in the second row. Ashlynn is pretty excited about participating in musical theater now!
