Summer Road Trip Day 6-8

After two full days in Yellowstone, we headed south to Park City, Utah.  Our original purpose/ main destination of our trip was a week in Park City.  Eric's dad has a Marriott time share that he bought for the purpose of family vacations.  Last year, when we were planning this summer's trip, we knew that we could not afford to fly someplace (Maui is where he first bought into but that would have cost a fortune), so we chose Park City because we knew we could drive instead.  Shortly after booking the week in Park City, we decided to add Yellowstone, since it isn't too far from Park City and since the kids, Eric and his dad had never been (plus, you have to book Yellowstone way in advance).

Okay, back to the story of our trip...

After leaving Yellowstone, we drove south through Grand Teton National Park.  It is so beautiful!  Next time I'm up that way I want to plug in a day or two for that park.
At one point we got stuck in road construction traffic.  While we waited, we had a great view of the mountains.  We also had a great view of the back of this SUV and some "colorful" bumper stickers.   Eric and I noticed a certain one right away and sat and listened as Ashlynn started reading them out loud.  Somehow, she missed the one we were concerned about. Phew!
We stopped at a beautiful viewing spot.
This was a lucky shot of Carter.  Thank goodness for the rapid fire mode on my camera!
We stopped in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, walked around for a little while, and then ate lunch before hitting the road.  It is a cool little town that I would also like to explore again.
There was a huge antler arch at each of the 4 entrances to the town square

We went into a crazy "trading post" store that had all sorts of items made from animals and animal parts.  Here's Ashlynn with a wolf or coyote pelt (is it a pelt if it is a predator too?).
This table reminded me of the movie "Hope Floats" because some of the animals were dressed up and posed.  I wonder about the person who makes that kind of stuff.
After many miles and a stop at the Salt Lake City Airport to drop off Phil's rental car (he rented one for the drive up and back to Yellowstone because it was too many miles and hours to squish 5 people and 2 carseats into a Lexus sedan) we arrived in Park City.

Following a good night's sleep, we took our first day in Park City to just relax.  We realized that the prior week had been exhausting.  Before all the driving and our super busy days in Yellowstone, we had spent a full day with family for my grandpa's funeral and a full day at Disneyland.  We needed a day off!

We read about and watched the Olympics (in a former Olympic city!).
We spent some time at the pool.

We checked out the Marriott (our place is the top floor in the teal with white trim "building").

And we checked out Main Street in Old Town Park City.

We even caught a concert in a little "park" on Main Street.

Early on the morning of day 8 of our trip, a stomach bug hit me hard.  Blick!  It is no fun being sick like that so far from home (and being married to a hypochondriac didn't make it easy either).  So, Eric, Phil and the kids stayed away from our place; they went swimming, bought Carter some shoes at the local Walmart and checked out the Winter Olympic Training Center.    The only fortunate thing about the situation was that I got to watch a lot of Olympic coverage!

But, I got better and our vacation continued on day 9 ...
