Carter Vales: Soccer Stud in Training
Carter went to his first soccer practice on Saturday. He's doing the Kidz Love Soccer program through the Monrovia Community Center. We considered putting him in AYSO, since he made the cut-off for U5, but we went with the other program because he is truly a beginner and we heard it works more on basic skills. AYSO will come next year.
On Friday night we bought him cleats, shin guards and soccer socks. He tried them out on Saturday morning by running around the backyard and kicking the ball around with Eric and Ashlynn.
Eric gave some pointers.
Ashlynn became rather interested in playing soccer too.
Later in the morning, Carter went to his first practice. It seems like a good program: it is short to match the 4 year old attention span, it involved lots of games to practice skills and the coach was good with the kids.
They played a dribbling game in which they were supposed to take the flag off the backside of other players while dribbling the ball. Carter didn't quite get it; he ran around giggling and taking flags, but left his ball.
He's learning pretty quickly.
At the end of the practice the coach put up two goals and the kids could dribble and shoot a goal.
Carter had fun and got a good work-out. That boy sweats!
Go Carter!
