This past week has been how I would describe our summer vacation so far: pleasant.
Last Saturday Ashlynn had her friend Lydia over for a playdate while Lydia's mom was in Africa on our church's mission trip. Those girls had fun being silly and did a lot of giggling.
That evening we enjoyed time with our friends the Mountains and the Desais at the Mountains' house.
The parents have known each other before these five cute kids were born.
We've hung out at home a lot this past week. Here's Eric with the laptop and our lap dog.
On Sunday, we celebrated Ashlynn's friend, Sophia's birthday with the Lee family (and Gretchen's brother's family). Mike made some delicious ribs using a special family recipe.
The kids had a "camp-out" in Carter's room.
Last Tuesday we needed to get out of the house. We shopped for some craft supplies at Hobby Lobby and then had lunch at Victoria Gardens. Carter crashed in the car on the drive home.
Eric and I decided to take the extra time we have during vacation to teach the kids how to do various chores around the house that we have been doing for them. One thing they've started doing is making their own sandwiches.
Here are the letters we bought at Hobby Lobby and I covered with scrapbook paper and Mod Podge (I did Ashlynn's name too but still need to take a photo).
More household chores:
Washing windows (she loved it!)
We ate dinner in the backyard many evenings this past week. I love it!
More chores
Carter was very proud that he was able to get his own breakfast out (bowl, spoon, cereal, and pouring the cereal into the bowl)
On Friday our outing was a picnic at Lacy Park. There was bike riding and kicking around a soccer ball.
Pippa joined us. She barked at other dogs but put her tail between her legs when they got remotely close.
Hey, there I am!
On the drive home we stopped for Lappert's ice cream (famous in Kauai) in San Marino. Sadly they didn't have my favorite flavor, but it was still yummy on a warm summer day.
More chores (don't worry, there are just a couple each day)
Today we went to Ashlynn's friend Kristoffer's birthday party. These adorable fawns were in the yard next door when we arrived.
Fun!
Ashlynn hung out with the boys
My boys had fun in the pool
International Dinner #2- Indian food
Tonight we went to Eric's and my favorite Indian restaurant: New Delhi Palace in Pasadena. The kids tried chicken tikka masala, lamb korma, tandoori chicken, basmati rice, and naan. Even though we went with "mild" flavors, they thought the food was spicy and drank a ton of water.
We checked out some of the artwork around the restaurant.
Both kids gave it a thumbs up!
Bring on July!

Fun! I want to steal your International Dinner idea . . . maybe you guys can come over once we're home and we can do one together. Whenever you're out our way (Victoria Gardens), give us a call. Way overdue :)
