Day Trip to Big Bear

Our friends, the Thomas family, are camping in Big Bear this week and invited us up to visit.  Yesterday, we drove up for the day and had a great time.

We started out with a walk down to the lake and then back to the campground for some lunch.
Most of the afternoon was spent at the lake.  Angie and Russ have a kayak, so there were a number of voyages.

The girls made a sand cake
At one point, the kids, minus Carter, went out on the kayak...
while the dads showed Carter how to fish...
and at some point, Angie and I looked over at the kayak and saw a boat coming toward the kids.  At first we were about to freak out that they would be hit and then we saw that the boat was "Lake Patrol".  Apparently the guy gave the kids a hard time about not having a day-use license for the kayak (which is a new thing).  Lame.  But, it allows us to joke with the kids about having their "first run-in with the law".
So, we decided to stop taking the kayak out but there was a little more fishing and hanging out before we packed up and headed back to the campground.
Oh, and of course there were pictures to be taken!

We had BBQ burgers for dinner,
and we made smores just before heading home.
It was such a fun day!  I think we're going to have to make it a tradition!
